![]() On the few occasions that I have tried to produce images from high res scans with the Macbook and Aperture, it has been an ordeal of many crashes and pin wheel of death freezes. I have used CS 3-5 for several years on my PC’s so I am accustomed to having 500 plus mb files in my work flow. ![]() I am not sure if this is related but my Macbook/Aperture combination have a high degree of reluctance toward working with large files. If the CD indicates support for Macintosh OS X 10.5, follow the instructions that came with your Epson product to install your drivers and other software. The installation process took extremely long, 45 minutes, with the result that the new version would not start either? I believe the Epson Scan version that I started with was 3.1, I then downloaded from the Epson site 3.8. Scanning directly into Aperture with anything more than 100 dpi resulted in a black square in a project named “Image Scans” The basic acquisition app does not have much in the way of production tools as opposed to the Epson Scan app that comes from epson. I was able to acquire a 72 dpi scan using the image acquisition app on the Macbook. And it will be only a few MBs rather than over a gig! If you have 16 different printers like me then the super driver installer would be the way to go.Thanks for all of the replies. I trust EPSON would have the very latest driver before it is integrated into the massive MAC / EPSON driver mass installer. No guesswork and you will get the very latest one. If you go to the EPSON site, locate the driver section and identify your printer model, the site will immediately recognize what MAC OS you are running under and display only the latest version for that printer model and your OS version. What sometimes happens is that you get the next to newest one. That will work just fine if your printer's very latest drive is included in that very large download. You basically want to select Canon network over Mac Bonjour network otherwise, the Canon print utility will not display Ink Levels. I no longer use the CD that comes with the printer, as you have to repeat the driver installation just to establish a new type of network connection.ġ-Install drivers from Canon web site for your printer/scanner.Ģ-Establish connection with Canon IJ Network Utility. I have been able to use printers going as far back as Epson 1160, 1280, 1400, 2200, R220 just fine in Mac OS X.įor Canon printers, I do recommend downloading directly from the Canon web site, as you know in advance what you are getting. This solved printing issues in Snow Leopard, for example, which included restoring the Epson Utility. If working on older systems, in particular, I highly recommend searching for Apple's latest bundled driver for Epson. The issue that drove this bad situation, I believe, is squabbling over where users would be sent for Print Supplies. In the recent past, Epson would say, No Drivers, download from Apple. I have usually adopted the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra. Think I'll just hold where I am since my printer is working fine. My main concern was with the Apple software udate which keeps hanging out there in my face :-). Didn't see anything about CUPS, or Gutenprint anywhere, but the printer is working great, beautiful prints, and I'm usually very reluctant to mess with settings unless I'm having problems. Under the 'Driver' heading, you should see 'CUPS', not Gutenprint (or something like that). you installed your Konica Minolta, Brother, Xerox, or Epson software. That said, if you open up System Prefs -> Printer Prefs -> select printer -> Open Print Queue -> Printer Setup -> General you should see the driver version. Mac OS X comes preloaded with tons of printer drivers from several of the most. The Apple software update sent me to Epson, and that's where I locaed the latest v. ![]() ![]() The reason is that the usual Apple printer driver is the 'Gutenprint' driver and it's very basic and not appropriate for quality work that we do. Do not use Apple software update for printer driver updates unless, when you go to and look for the driver, they explicitly say to do so.
